Devo - The Sound of Wings
Philippians 4:8-9
8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true,
whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely,
whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy
of praise, think about these things. 9 What you have learned and received and
heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with
you.
I had someone tell me years ago that when my
mind starts to swerve left of center and the yellow line on the road ahead
starts to blend in with my surroundings – that I should begin at the top of this
list and move along until I come to one that I can not apply to what I’m
thinking.
I don’t remember ever making it past the first
item. I ask myself if what I’m thinking is true. Well. In the case of my
anxious musings, they are never true. And just how much time and energy do I
really want, or even have, to spend on a lie?
If I also apply the fact that my anxiety is
saying to God, “I don’t really think you can handle this...”, I am left with
the opportunity to firm up my faith through the changing of my mind. Then the
work of the Word can be accomplished.
I love that Paul is quick to say that these
things take practice. I can testify that this is a fact. But little by little,
each time I decide to discipline my mind and crawl out of that dark place, my outlook
changes.
I feel Him.
I see His hand.
I find comfort in His promises.
I move from a woman of confusion to a woman of
courage.
James 4:7-8a
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist
the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near
to you.
And when that happens, Glory! The enemy of my
soul falls to the power of our Almighty God!
Then a sound is heard.
Imagine that moment in heaven.
The panicked sound of the wings of a demon
fleeing.
He flees the moment a daughter of the King
reaches out for her Savior.
Today I want to hear demons fleeing! Not by my
power but by the power of His Word.
And the discipline of mind repeated again and
again until the day of His return.
With all praise to Him who is able!
Let’s do this together, sisters!
